As per Hindu mythology, this is the start of treta Yug and also birthday od Lord Parshuram.

This day is names as Akshya means it will never diminish ... it will remain for ever and this is the reason it is one of the very good Muhurta and people schedule their works for this day. People buy gold start new ventures and many more. Yes there are many marriages on this day and specially in the central part of India ( MP, Rajasthan and Maharashtra etc) there are many marraiges. The bitter part of this is many of them are before the age of 18 years.

In the World histry today is VE day (Victory Europe) and on this day in 1945 the world War II was ended in Europe and Germany surrendered.

It is Parents day in South Koria.

So the parents are very important in all the societies. Every society in the world recongnize the importance but we indians are now forgetting the importance of the family, parents and also becoming self centered. I could remember the words of former President Dr. Kalam when he said that the econimic groth is not a proepr index to judge a nations groath... it is also to be judged by the fact how many of them are living in the joint family, and how is the caracter of the people.

So on this day make a promice to our slef that we will respect our parents.
